Our History
Following the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, which affected our senior citizens more than most, our founder Claudette Duff, saw the opportunity to develop a new housing alternative for our senior citizens, and called the project, Out of the Storm Senior Housing. It provides small-group housing that uses private homes in local neighborhoods. These homes provide a family-like, safe, and secure living environment for three to four individuals.

In November of 2012, with the assistance of many volunteers from all around the country, we renovated and opened our first house in Tottenville, Staten Island. In March of 2014, we opened Chapin House in Dongan Hills. On June 22, 2014, thanks to our many volunteers, we had a very successful Open House /Yard-Sale at Chapin House. As of 2019, Out of the Storm is an established 501(C)3 non-profit and continues to provide quality homes for its clients.
